Hope for Haiti

On January 12, 2010 a massive earthquake rocked the island nation of Haiti.
A wave of solidarity around the world rolled in.

And here comes a small piece of help.
19 designers came together to create a huge and beautiful mega kit.
The kit contains 95 backgroundpapers and 183 elements.
The complete income will be donated to the German Red Cross to help in Haiti.

This tutorial was written on February 13, 2010 by Karla – translated on February 19, 2010 by BeDeSign.

The tutorial is written for PSP X2. But you can also use other versions.

The name of the scrap-kit I used is “Hope for Haiti”,
it’s a charity-kit to help the people of Haiti.
It could be purchased at Scrap Wishes.

For this tutorial you need:
Paint Shop Pro and no external filters
The frame used comes with PSP X2, if you don’t have it, you can
download the frame here

So, let’s start!
Open the material and put the frame into the frame-folder of PSP.

The kit is wonderful and really big. I used a few parts from different designers. Because so many have participated, I tried to show their different works.

The tutorial is only one idea. You can play with the kit for several hours.

Open a new transparent file 800 x 640 px – Selections: select all.

Copy all of snoopy design – paper: design_by_snopoy_pp4.jpg
Paste into selection
Select none
Image ---> Picture Frame ---> Edge fun 02

The frame is white and a separate layer called “Picture Frame”.
Click with your Magic Wand, tolerance 0 within the white on the frame.
Choose your paper-layer and press delete
Select none
Then delete the layer with the frame.
Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow 3, 3, 50, 5

Open Verena Designs - vka_CharityforHaiti_e9.png and resize it to 700 px width.
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Image ---> Free Rotate ---> left, 30°, Rotate single layer
Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow 3, 3, 50, 5

Open Verena Designs - vka_CharityforHaiti_e3.png and resize it to 500 px width.
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Move it to the corner on the right bottom
Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow 3, 3, 50, 5

Open Git - GIT_CHARITY-FOR-HAITI_the-magic-realm_rocks.png
Resize it to 250 px width
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Image ---> Mirror
Move it into the front of the gras
Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow 3, 3, 50, 5

Resize it to 500 px height
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Image ---> Mirror
Move it to the right bottom and a little bit higher
Duplicate this layer
Image ---> Mirror
Move it a little down

Layers ---> Merge ---> Merge down
Layers ---> Arrange ---> Send to Bottom
Adjust ---> Hue and Saturation ---> Colorize

Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow 3, 3, 50, 5

Open Git - GIT_CHARITY-FOR-HAITI_the-magic-realm_grass02.png
Resize it to 359 px height
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Layers ---> Arrange ---> Send to Top
Adjust ---> Hue and Saturation ---> Colorize, same values as before
Move it on top of the ball bottom left

Open Dreamplace Digital Art - dda_charityhaiti_ele10.png
Resize it to 400 px width
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Place it on the left side beside the bow, it should be a little higher than the frame.
Use the Freehand-Selection, feather 0 and select the umbrella handle

Copy ---> Paste As New Layer ---> Select none
Use it to make the umbrella handle longer
Layers ---> Merge ---> Merge down

Open Cali - Cali_DSA_Element02.png
Resize it to 280 px height
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Image ---> Free Rotate ---> left, 70°, Rotate single layer
Place it on the left bottom

Open Cali - Cali_DSA_Element07.png
Crop the image a little bit

Resize it to 250 px width
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Place it within the bow
Use the Freehand-Selection, feather 0 and select the flowers on the right

Move it a little left and down

Select none
Layers ---> Arrange ---> Move Down until it is placed under the layer with the bow.

Open Majula - majula_hope.png
Open Majula - majula_love.png
Open Majula - majula_peace.png
Resize them each to 160 px width
Adjust ---> Hue and Saturation ---> Colorize, same values as before
Bring all three layers to top

Duplicate the layer with the grass on the right side
Resize it to 70% (only the layer)
Duplicate two times more
Move one in front of the rocks, bring this layer to the top
Move one in front of umbrella, bring this layer to the top
Resize the 3rd on to 50% (only the layer)
Move it to the bottom left side, bring this layer to the top

Open Julia Design - charity_julia_design.png
Resize it to 700 px width
Adjust ---> Hue and Saturation ---> Colorize, same values as before
Image ---> Mirror
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Place it in the upper third
Bring the layer down, behind the umbrella
Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow 3, 3, 50, 5

Open Julia Design - charity_julia_design.png one more time
Resize it to 350 px width
Adjust ---> Hue and Saturation ---> Colorize, same values as before
Image ---> Mirror
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Place it a little under the first one on the right side
Bring the layer down, behind the umbrella
Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow 3, 3, 50, 5
Duplicate this layer
Image ---> Mirror
Image ---> Free Rotate, 25° left, Rotate single layer
Place it beside the other one
Bring the layer with the word “hope” under this layer

Open Keiko - Keiko_Haiti_EL (5).png
Resize it to 250 px width
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Place it in the left bottom corner on the piece of wood
Bring the layer to the top

Duplicate the layer
And resize the duplicated layer to 50%
Image ---> Mirror
Place it on the left bottom corner
Give to both layers (with the shells) the Drop Shadow (values same as before)

Resize it to 150 px width
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Place it in the corner left bottom (between the shells)
Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow 3, 3, 50,

Open Cali - Cali_DSA_Element01.png
Resize it to 200 px height
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Place it in the corner left bottom (behind the grass – layer down until it’s behind the grass)
Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow 3, 3, 50,

Image ---> Canvas Size

Open Schokomama - haiti-schokomama-ele10.png
Resize it to 700 px width
Use the magic wand (tolerance 42) and select all wood-parts
Colorize the selection with the same values as before
Selection None
Selection All
Copy ---> Paste As New Layer
Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow 3, 3, 50,
Layer ---> Arrange ---> Send to Bottom

Now you only have to add your text and give it the same drop shadows as before.

And that is the result:
